Privacy notice
visible.. Budget and visible.. Weight · version 2026-11-01 · last updated 1 November 2026
The short version. visible.. is a small alpha test run by one person. Your data stays in your browser unless you sign in to sync. If you do, it is kept in Google Firebase in Belgium (EU). Nothing is sold, there are no ads and no trackers. Weight is health data, so it is only stored with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw. AI is only used in Budget, only if you add your own Anthropic key. You can download or delete everything at any time.
Who is responsible
David Fowler, who runs visibledotdot.com, is the data controller. Contact: david@physicshack.com. There is no company and no data protection officer; questions go straight to me.
This is an alpha test
visible.. is an open alpha test: anyone aged 18 or over can sign up and try it. Things may break or change, and features may be removed. It is not medical, financial or legal advice. Keep your own backups (both apps can export a file).
What is stored, and where
Without an account, everything stays in your browser's storage on your device. I can't see it.
With an account, the following is kept in Google Firebase:
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google. A sign-in record kept by Firebase Authentication. | To sign you in and keep your data yours. |
| Profile | Email, display name, when you last used a tool and which one. | To show who you are signed in as, and spot stale test accounts. |
| Budget | What you enter: bills, income, payday, balance, plans, goals, notes, and the names of household members. Shared with the members of your household. | To sync your budget between devices and people you invite. |
| Household membership | Which household you belong to, when you joined, and one-time invite links. | So only members can open a household. |
| Weight (health data) | Weight readings, food and check-in/journal entries, and your preferences. | To sync your log between your devices, only with your consent. |
| Consent records | Whether you agreed (or acknowledged) this notice, when, and which version, plus when you withdrew. | To prove consent and respect withdrawal. |
| Feedback | Whatever you write in Budget's feedback box, with the type, device name, app version, number of bills, whether you're in a household and your account ID. | To fix problems and improve the app. |
Your Anthropic API key, if you add one, stays on your device. It is never synced and is left out of exports.
Legal basis
- Weight / health data: your explicit consent (UK GDPR Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)). You tick a box before anything is saved, and you can withdraw at any time.
- Account, sync and Budget: to provide the service you asked for (contract), and my legitimate interest in running a secure open alpha test (including blocking an account that is abused, by its account ID). Budget asks you to acknowledge this notice before you set up household sync.
- Feedback and keeping the service secure: legitimate interests.
Where your data is kept, and who else handles it
- Google Firebase (Google Ireland / Google LLC) hosts the database in the europe-west1 region (Belgium) and runs sign-in. Google acts as my processor under its data processing terms. Firebase Authentication may handle your sign-in details in the USA. Google covers transfers out of the UK/EU with standard contractual clauses and the UK–US data bridge.
- Website hosting: the pages are served by Fasthosts (UK). Like any web host, it may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, time and page) for security.
- Loading the pages: your browser fetches code and fonts from Google (Firebase SDK on gstatic.com, Google Fonts) and, for Weight's charts, jsDelivr. Those services see your IP address and browser details when they send the files. They do not receive your budget or weight data.
- Household members you invite can see and change the shared budget.
- No one else. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used for profiling. There are no analytics or tracking cookies.
AI
- Weight never uses AI. Your health data is never sent to an AI service.
- Budget's AI features are optional and off by default. They only work if you paste in your own Anthropic API key (More → Advanced). Then three things send data straight from your browser to Anthropic (USA), under your own Anthropic account and its terms:
- “Review my plan” sends your income, commitments, bills and goals.
- “Check my context” (budget health) sends a similar summary of your figures.
- “Analyse with Claude” on the Scan tab sends the photo of the letter or bill you take.
- “Copy Analysis Prompt” only copies text to your clipboard. Nothing is sent unless you paste it into an AI tool yourself.
- I do not use your data to train AI models.
How long it is kept
- Synced data is kept while you have an account, until you delete it or the alpha ends. When the alpha ends I will tell testers and delete the cloud data within 30 days, unless you have moved to a later version.
- When you withdraw consent for Weight, syncing stops straight away. You can choose to delete the cloud copy at the same time.
- Feedback is kept for up to 12 months.
- When the apps move between database layouts, I keep backup files offline for no more than 30 days after the move is confirmed.
- On your device, data stays until you delete it.
Your rights: download, delete, and more
- Download my data: Weight → Account → Export backup; Budget → More → Privacy & your data → Download my data. You get a JSON file.
- Delete my account and data: the same places. This removes everything stored under your account and your sign-in account, takes you out of any household (and wipes it if you are the only member), and clears that device. If you are in a Budget household, delete from Budget. Any feedback you sent is removed by hand. Email me, or I will clear them when I see the deletion.
- You also have the right to access, correct, restrict or object to processing. For anything else, email david@physicshack.com. I will reply within one month.
- Complaints: you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113. I would appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Storage on your device
The apps use your browser's local storage to save your data and remember your sign-in. This is needed for them to work, so no cookie banner is needed. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, the version above changes. Weight will ask for your consent again where needed.
